National Family Week a success
St John Ambulance has been busy raising
awareness of first aid and volunteering opportunities for all the
family during National Family Week.
First aid brings families closer together
National Family Week is a new initiative to
encourage families to spend more time together and St John
Ambulance has been showing the abundance of
opportunities available. Using open days and roadshows,
and giving special offers on training courses, the nation’s leading
first aid charity has taught parents and children life
saving skills and the benefits of
volunteering with the organisation.
This week has been a great success. We’ve had lovely feedback from adults and children telling us how they never realised learning first aid could be so much fun.

Of the events that took place, St John
Ambulance in Wiltshire ran Emergency first aid
child and infant courses for just £5. Meanwhile Badgers and Cadets
held fun and informative open days all week long
talking to other children and young people about what being a young
member involves.
In Derbyshire, meanwhile, St
John Ambulance took their marquee and toured the county. Visiting
town centres, family attractions, and shopping centres, the team
put on first aid demonstrations and spoke to local
people about how they can make the difference between life
and death.
Gemma Taylor, Derbyshire PR and Fundraising
Manager says: ‘This week has been a great success. We’ve had lovely
feedback from adults and children telling us how they never
realised learning first aid could be so much fun. It’s
also been helpful for people to get to meet our volunteers and hear
about what taking part in St John Ambulance means. Many families
struggle to think of things to do together, but National Family
Week has shown that volunteering not only ensures time well spent
helping the local community but also
brings families closer together through a shared
passion.’
