Our strategy for schools

Developing skills, saving lives

school children

At St John Ambulance, we see access to first aid training as a fundamental right. First aid training helps young people understand the value of life and the importance of caring for others. It also builds self-esteem and develops valuable life skills for the future.

However, of the eight million children and 450,000 teachers in the UK, only a small percentage are first aid trained. With this in mind, we have created our strategy for schools, a five year plan to ensure that every school pupil has access to our first aid and health and safety training.

Our strategy is our framework for achieving this vision. It gives structure and direction which, with your support, will enable all pupils and members of the schools workforce to access life saving and life enhancing skills.

The strategy has been informed by extensive consultation with a broad range of education professionals, including primary and secondary school teachers, governors, head teachers, charities involved in education and young people’s development, educational consultants, St John Ambulance staff, volunteers, customers and members of our youth units.

It is only through partnership with yourselves that we can make this happen, find out more about how you can play a part.
